Make working with internet shortcut files in Google Drive™ fast and seamless. When you store links as files this app lets you open them instantly in a new browser tab without downloading. Simply click the file in Drive, and you'll be redirected to the link it contains. It works like you'd expect on your desktop — but now in the cloud.
Special note:
Opening URLs in one click is currently supported by Google Drive™ for web. In Google Drive™ for Android/IOS, you will need the "Open with..." action.
This is the key step that enables the one-click behaviour. Find a set of screenshots below.
In the top-right corner of the Google Drive interface, click the gear icon (Settings).
From the dropdown menu, select "Settings".
In the window that opens, go to the "Manage Apps" tab on the left.
You will see a list of all applications connected to your Google Drive. Find the app you want to use as the default for a specific file type in this list.
Next to the app's name, check the box that says "Use as default".
URL Shortcuts for Google Drive™ streamlines this entire process into a single click. The application registers a special MIME type for your URL shortcuts. When you double-click on a file of this type within your Google Drive, our app instantly opens the embedded URL in a new browser tab. You can also load the corresponding shortcut files (such as .url or .desktop) from your desktop computer.
Supported formats:
application/internet-shortcut, application/x-url, text/url, text/x-url, wwwserver/redirection, application/x-mswinurl, application/x-desktop, text/uri-list, text/x-moz-url, text/x-uri, message/external-body
One-Click Opening: Say goodbye to the cumbersome copy-paste routine. Open any saved URL in a new tab with a simple double-click.
Seamless Integration: The app works behind the scenes within your familiar Google Drive™ environment.
Improved Workflow: Enhance your productivity by centralizing your web resources in Google Drive™ and accessing them with unparalleled ease.
